2016 Elementary by Nick Goldschmidt Oakville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Game Ranch

2016 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Game Ranch
Our first Napa Valley Cabernet from Nick is a classic, for those who are looking for big, structured wines built for long term aging. Game Ranch lies on the eastern-end of Oakville Cross Rd. Its neighbors include Plumpjack, Rudd, Groth and Screaming Eagle. The soils here transition from volcanic red clay to brown gravelly loam. They offer exceptionally good drainage which controls vigor, produce small berries and ultimately wines with deep concentration. Nick Goldschmidt makes his Oakville Game Ranch in a very lush, elegant style employing wild yeast fermentation and using only new French oak. Nick’s Tasting Notes: Deep red with intense purple hue. Black cherry with violet & licorice nose. The palate follows again with black cherry and dark plum. These dark fruits balance perfectly with the French oak. The finish has supple round tannins but with a massive amount of fruit.
